OBITUARY

Joseph W. Shriner, 89, of Bentleyville, died Monday morning, July 25, 2016 at Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington.

He was born June 27, 1927 in Eighty Four, a son of George and Helen Russin Shriner.

A veteran, he served during World War II with the Navy See Bees as an Electrician Third Class Seaman in the South Pacific.

Mr. Shriner retired from Bethlehem Mines and worked as a longwall foreman at the Cokeburg and Somerset mines.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bentleyville, where he was a former elder and trustee.

Mr. Shriner was a member of the American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville, and an avid outdoorsman, was a member of the Pennsylvania Trappers, District 3.

His first wife, Ann Nemeth Shriner, died May 11, 1988.

His second wife, Janet B. Lucy Shriner, whom he married October 21, 2006, survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Betty Ann Schofield (the late Roger Thomas) of Hopewell Township; granddaughter, Lori Jo Watters (Bill) of Hopewell Township; great-grandchildren, Kailey, Liam Josef and Nola Annalise Watters; sister, Sue Procasky of Berea, Ohio; several nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Beverly Sumney (Scott) and Grace Sumney and special nephews, Bradley Parola and Richy Shriner; step-daughter, Lisa Petronka (Greg) of Bentleyville; step-son, Jay Marinkovich of Michigan; step-granddaughters, Joanie Danner (Brian), Erin Marinkovich and Kelli Huff; step-grandsons, Todd Matiyasic (Ashley) and Mitch Matiyasic (Jill); step great-grandsons, Charlie Beadling, Tate Musko, Jackson Matiyasic and Ben Matiyasic and his special companions, Honey Bee and Mayzee.

Deceased are his brothers, Mike, George, Paul, Carl, John and Tom Shriner; sisters, Ann Brietenbach, Helen Babiak and Marie Belak and step-daughter, Mary Ann Wood.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2016 with the Rev.
